Fairly unreasonable fine that. I was riding up on the sidewalk to park my bike the other day. A guy came up to me and told me how he got a $173 fine for riding on the sidewalk. I don't know about other states, but in Victoria it's perfectly legal to park your bike on the sidewalk.... you're just meant to walk it there rather than ride it there.... It's just retarded to have to hop off the bike and walk it 2 meters.

At least it's just 2 demerit points, could be worse. The fine is a bitch though.

Part of the problem could be with parking on the footpath.  You're supposed to leave it unobstructed and can get a fine for parking there.

Nuh, definitely wasn't the case. Foothpath parking fines are virtually unheard of. Sometimes building owners leave angry notes apparantly and write things like "You are parked illegally, your vehicle has been reported to the council/police." Hasn't happened to me, but I've heard of it.

Victoria is very good when i comes to motorbike parking.

Hmm... I've ridden my motorcycle up onto the pavement to park in front of officers... they don't mind here in the UK.
It's more fun to LIVE life than to just cruise through it. People who play by the rules are in nature the same baby locked away securely in that protective, warm womb.

Yeah, my instructor said it's legal as well, but obviously the cops are saying it isn't. (VIC)

I've only done it once, so far.  Up here in Qld, I'd been for a huge ride out to Summerset dam and back.  I was tired, and my arse was sore, so when I got stuck in traffic on my way home, I jumped the que and lane split until I caught the moving traffic again.
This was after moving 20m in 5min.

Far as I know splitting and filtering are illegal in QLD, but that doesn't stop me from filtering. I don't think a cop would ever ping you for filtering but lane splitting is a different story.

Very interesting posts. I have a story of my own. It was a hot day ~38 degrees and I was returning from work. I was trying to lane filter to get to the front, however the cars hadn't left enough of a gap. So i went onto the bike lane (on the left) and got ahead of the traffic from there. I didn't see the cop on the adjacent road until I accelerated. I expected him to pull me over, but nope, nothing.
